There are a select few YouTubers whom I don’t want to watch. These people usually put out tons of low content videos that pander to the lowest common denominator. A few of these YouTubers are “ItsLeafy” and “PewDiePie” (whom I’ve never watched any of their videos), “VeganGains”, and “GradeAUnderA”. Mainly I want to talk about “Muselk”.
Like many content creators, he started out making really fun videos. He even started a rocket jump contestĀ for Team Fortress 2, which got me really excited. He started to get quite a bit of a following because of the quality he put into his videos and the time and effort he sunk into the community.
But then he sort of ran out of things to talk about and started really reaching for things.
Since then I’ve discovered that there’s not much depth to his opinions about video games, in regards to technical skills and strategy. He seems like a nice guy but I can’t escape this feeling of his videos being shallow and pandering.
So what’s this post all about, then? Fucking YouTube. I keep getting recommended Muselk videos every time I watch a video that’s remotely related to his videos. Watching Zylbrad video? “Have a look at Muselk’s crappier video!” NO. [Click ignore]. I even went to Muselk’s channel and blocked him, and I’m still getting recommendations to watch his stuff. I’ve given in a few times and watched a video or three to give Muselk a chance, but I still can’t shake my dislike for the guy.
Why won’t YouTube just let me blacklist channels I don’t want to ever see? It’s so odd that a website of their size and resources can’t develop a user experience that has a little more customization than an eBook reader.
